Growth and development in Schofields NSW
Few suburbs in Sydney have changed as completely. The 2001 Census counted 3,012 people in Schofields; by 2021 it was 15,213, a rise of more than five hundred per cent. The suburb takes its name from John Schofield, a transported convict who became a landowner and farmed the area after the railway arrived in 1864. In November 2020 the boundaries were redrawn and two new suburbs, Nirimba Fields and Tallawong, were created from what had been Schofields.
